Hornet wrestlers fall to Athens

The Wellsboro wrestling team fell to Athens last night, 37-27 in Athens.

Freshman Tyler Evans started with the first win for the Hornets at 113 lbs. as he earned a 6-0 decision over Adam Saylor. Junior Nate Ingerick was the second Hornet to pick up a win on the evening, his coming in 126 lbs. with a pin in 2:58 against Zach Sheppeck.

After a forfeit at 132 lbs. and loss by Senior Josh Kennedy at 138 lbs., Junior Brandon Owlett picked up a pin over Schae Terkay in 1:32 at 145 lbs. The Hornets' remaining two victories came from their heavyweights. At 220 lbs. Senior Chad Daugherty pinned Jordan Alliger in 2:12 and at 285 lbs. Senior Eli Kennedy scored a fall over Mitchell Orshall in 1:21.

For Daugherty, the win is his 95th of his career.

In Middle School action, the Hornets lost a close match to Athens, by the final score of 53-48.

With the loss, the Hornets fall to 1-11 (0-4 NTL Large Division) on the year. The team will be back in action on Saturday, Febraury 2 as they travel to Sayre.
