The Wellsboro Varsity softball team used the 10-run rule to beat Liberty 11-1 in 5 innings Friday night.
After scoring 4 comibned runs in their past two games, the Lady Hornets' offense came alive against Liberty and exploded for 8 runs in the 1st inning. The Lady Hornets scored one run in the 4th and 2 in the 5th to seal the victory.
Sophomore Baylea Lehman, Junior Maggie Smith, Junior Brooke Kohler, Freshman Sarah Ingerick, Sophomore Peyton Wilson, and Sophomore Jordan Butters all had 2 hits on the night. Kohler had 3 RBI's and scored twice while Wilson had 2 RBI's and scored twice. Butters and Sophomore Paige Carr also added 2 RBI's on the night.
Kohler went the distance on the mound for the Lady Hornets, giving up 4 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 7 on 68 pitches.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 8-5 (4-1 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Monday, May 6 as they host Cowanesque Valley.
