The Wellsboro Varsity softball team came back from a 3-2 deficit in the 4th inning to beat Athens 7-3 Monday night in Wellsboro.
Athens led 2-0 after the first inning but Wellsboro knotted it at two-all after the third. The Wildcats took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth but in the bottom half of the inning Wellsboro took a 4-3 lead. Wellsboro broke the game open in the 6th inning and secured the win with three more runs.
Junior Brooke Kohler went 2-3 with an RBI, Freshman Jenny Young (2-3) and Freshman Sarah Ingerick (2-4) had multiple hit games with Ingerick knocking in a run. Sophomore Jordan Butters had a double with 3 RBI's, Sophomore Paige Carr had a double with 2 RBI's, and Sophomore Baylea Lehman went 1-3.
Junior Maggie Smith pitched five innings with three strikeouts and no walks to earn the win. Kohler picked up a save, coming in the sixth inning to finish out the game with four strikeouts and no walks.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 6-1 (3-0 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, April 24 as they travel to Wyalusing.
