The Wellsboro Varsity girls cross country team picked up two non-league wins Thursday by defeating Coudersport and Jersey Shore.
Both teams ran at Ives Run just outside of Wellsboro due to construction at Lake Nessmuk. The girls came home with a 18-42 win over Coudersport and 16-46 over Jersey Shore.
The Lady Hornets swept the top three positions as Sophomore Jada Jackson (18:41), Jordyn Coffee (19:29), and Camryn Keane (19:35) finished 1-2-3. Sophomore Samantha Bailey was 5th (19:45), Senior Charlotte Worthington was 8th (20:24), Junior Annie Sweeney was 9th (20:26), Freshman Janessa Davis was 12th (20:43), and Senior Baylee Mann came home 17th (22:29).
In the boys race, Wellsboro lost to Coudersport 32-23 and 37-23 to Jersey Shore. Senior Joey Doganiero was the top finisher for the team in 4th (16:00), Freshman Joey Messmer was 6th (17:22), Sophomore David Zavetsky was 13th (18:03), Junior Dalton Messmer was 15th (18:21), and Freshman Alden Weiner was 16th (18:28).
In the Middle School race against Coudersport, the Wellsboro boys won 23-39 and the girls won 15-0.
With the win the girls improve to 10-2 (8-1 NTL), while the boys fall to 1-11 (1-8 NTL). Both teams will be back in action on Saturday, October 12 for the NTL Coaches' Meet.
