The Wellsboro Varsity softball team picked up a non-league victory last night as they defeated the Canton Warriors, 10-9. The Hornets started out strong as Sophomore Maggie Smith hit a 2-run home run in the first. The Hornets found themselves trailing 7-3 entering the bottom of the fourth, but a five-run fourth inning performance turned the game around.
The Hornets forced extra innings, and gave up a solo home run with two outs in the eighth inning. In the bottom half of the inning, Wellsboro rallied when Freshman Peyton Wilson walked and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Freshman Lauren Bleggi drove home the tying run and later scored the winning run on a errant throw by the catcher.
Bleggi finshed the game 3-5 and Smith went 3-4 with 4 RBIs. Sophomore Brooke Kohler picked up her second win of the season for the Horents. Kohler replaced Smith in the middle of the sixth inning and helf on to record the victory.
With the win, the Hornets are now 5-1 (4-1 NTL West), and have won four straight games. The team will be back in action later today when they host South Wiliamsport.
