Junior Chad Daugherty was the lone Wellsboro wrestler to advance to Districts after claiming the North Section 195 lbs. title. Daugherty held down Wyalusing's Ben Griffith for a 6-0 decision. Daugherty scored a takedown in the first to take a 2-0 lead after the opening period, followed by a quick reversal on Griffith to start the second, taking a 4-0 lead.
Daugherty took the lead into the third, beginning the period on bottom. After being hit with a stall the Hornet Junior swung around for the reversal, going up 6-0. He would then ride Griffith out for the win.
"Last year I got third place," Daugherty remarked. "This year I felt pretty confident coming in, I had won every match in the league. I just felt that if I wrestle like I do during the regular season I feel confident enough to win the section."
Junior Eli Kennedy and Sophomore Nate Ingerick also wrestled on the day for the Hornets. Kennedy fell to Williamson's Macory Button by pin in 4:23, while Ingerick lost to Towanda's Terrick Vargason by a 2-1 decision.
With his win, Daugherty will advance to the District tournament, held in Williamsport, next Friday and Saturday. Stay tuned to WellsboroAthletics.com as Chad continues his season.
