Hornets Fall to Athens

The Wellsboro Hornets dropped their first Homecoming game in two years to Athens, 40-7. Athens got on the scoreboard early, as Shane Raupers returned a punt for a touchdown. The Wildcats' defense scored next, as a Cameron Jones pass was intercepted and returned for a touchdown. By the half, Athens was on top, 20-0.

Wellsboro got on the board in the second half with a huge play from Senior Fullback Pat Driebelbies. Driebelbies ran around the left end of the Wildcats' defense en route to Wellsboro's only touchdown on the evening. Driebelbies finished with 176 yards rushing on the night. With the loss, the Hornets fall to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the NTL Large School Division. The Varsity team will be in action next Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. game against Canton. The J.V. team will be in action on Saturday, October 11 at Athens for a 11:00 a.m. game.
