The 2007 season got underway tonight as the South Williamsport Mounties came to town to face off against the Hornets. South Williamsport was ready for the challenge, fresh off their momentum that carried them to the Eastern Conference Playoffs last year. The Hornets were not scared though, as the matched their momentum for the opening kickoff.
After getting down 6-0 in the first quarter, Wellsboro was able to bounce back and put up 13 points in the second quarter. Junior Running Back Jake Coolidge punched the ball in from 4 yards out for Wellsboro's first score of the night. A few minutes later, Senior Defensive End Colton Acorn picked up an Aaron Moss forced fumble and took the ball 45 yards to the end zone.
South Williamsport held tough as they bounced back and quickly scored a touchdown to go ahead 14-13. The Hornets were not done, and ended up scoring 2 more times to push the lead to 25-14. Next week, Wellsboro will face Canton at Troy's Alparon Park.
