Wellsboro shuts out Montogmery

The Wellsboro JV Team went into their game against Montgomery with one goal in mind, shut out the Red Raiders like the Varsity. The task at hand was not easy, as Sophomore Wide Receiver Garrett Stager started in place of Quarterback Cameron Jones, as a result of Jones being ejected from last week's game with Troy.

Stager seemed to adjust to his new role quickly, however, as the Hornets scored early in the first quarter. Not known for his throwing ability, Stager completed passes to Pat Eaton, Mitch Christman, and Matt Weaver. Sophomore Running Back Steve Mengee scored Wellsboro's final touchdown on the night, punching the ball in from the one-yard line after a long run by Freshman Fullback Aaron Moss.

Wellsboro's defense also played tough during the contest, holding Montgomery to very few yards of total offense. Sophomore Defensive Tackle Ronny Camacho caused a fumble, Defensive End Chris Shelmire deflected a pass that was eventually caught by Freshman Nose Guard Nate Luczak. Montgomery was able to spark some offense near the end of the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late, as Wellsboro hung on for the 19-0 shutout victory, improving their record to 5-2 on the season. Wellsboro will finish season on the road at Cowanesque Valley and Wyalusing in the next two weeks.
