Rams top Green Hornets, 39-12

The Wyalusing Rams scored 39 points in the final three quarters of play to down visiting Wellsboro 39-12 in Northern Tier League football action Friday evening, September 6.

The Hornets hung tough in this one, trailing only 14-6 at halftime. The Rams however, tallied 25 second half points, while holding Wellsboro to six.

Quarterback Carl Raffin got the scoring underway, running the ball in from a yard out in the second quarter, to give Wyalusing a 7-0 lead.

Jon Cox got the Hornets back to within a point, 7-6, when he scored on a 24 yard scamper. On the ensuing kickoff however, the Rams' John Patterson fielded the ball on his own 15-yard line and bolted 85 yards for a touchdown. His second successful point after kick increased Wyalusing's lead to 14-6 by the half, after the scores put the game out of the Hornets' reach.

Frank Thompson bulled over from a yard out scoring strike from Raffin to Patterson put the Rams comfortably in control, 27-6 entering the final period of play.

Hornet quarterback Chad Watters scored on a one yard touchdown plunge to end Wellsboro's scoring for the evening early in the fourth stanza.

Wyalusing countered with a pair of late touchdowns, a 56 yard Shane Brewer run and a one yard blast by Brad Fasset.

Brewer finished as the game's top rusher, churning out 121 yards on 13 carries. For the Hornets, Neil Bogaczyk led the way with 51 yards on 11 totes. He also caught both of Watters' completions for 22 yards.

Cox had 45 yards on 13 carries while Chris Morral added 25 yards on six tries.

Wellsboro's next game is Friday evening, September 13 at home against Towanda. It is the Hornets' home opener, Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
