Senior Will Poirier was selected to the Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association's All-State team as the Northern Tier League released their annual all-star team selections on Tuesday, November 10.
"Being selected for all-state is truly an amazing honor. Ever since my freshman year it was my goal to be selected," said Poirier. "First, there is no way I could have done it without my team or my coach. Everyday they showed up to push me to be the best player I can be. They are there for me on the field when I need them and i am there when they need me. Next, over my four years of high school I have trained both in season and out of season to reach the point where I am today. With that being said, being selected as one of the top players in the state has definitely shown the time and effort I have put in over the last four years has been worth it."
Poirier finished his Hornet career with 57 goals, 84 assists, and 198 total points. Poirier is the 1st Hornet to finish with 50+ goals and 50+ assists for his career and is one of six Hornets to reach 50 career goals since the program's inception in 2003. Poirier led Wellsboro during the 2020 season in goals (24), assists (29), shots taken (59), and points (77).
Poirier is the 6th Hornet to be named to the All-State team (Darby Alafoginis, Erik Stemcosky, Josiah Hill, and Gabe Leach) and the 2nd under third year head coach Todd Fitch, who coached Brett Rudy to the team in 2018.
"I am very happy for Will. His accomplishments speak for themselves, but having others recognize what he brings to a match further validates what he has achieved. I have said it before and I'll say it again: The milestones, the awards, the recognition are simply a return on investment. It is never a guarantee, but you increase your chances to achieve if you invest yourself in your passion. All-State recognition is the exclamation point on Will's investment and outstanding high school career."
WellsboroAthletics.com would like to congratulate Will on his all-state nomination.
