The Wellsboro Middle School Soccer team won their fifth straight game with a 3-1 win over Williamson on Thursday, October 1.
The Hornets looked confident Thursday afternoon as they passed the ball effectively to create several opportunities. Kaeden Mann put the Hornets on the scoreboard first off an assist from Will Poirier. Joseph Grab later scored off an assist from Kaeden Mann. Poirier would score the third goal for the Hornets with less than ten minutes remaining in the first half.
Williamson would score in the last minute of the first half off a well-placed direct kick.
The Hornets struggled to hold onto their two goal lead in the second half as Williamson created more opportunities for themselves. One Williamson player surprised the Hornets with a flip throw in that made it into the box and almost turned into a goal.
Zach Rowland and Nathan Heath had three saves each in goal.
"We are still learning how to use passing to make the game easier," said head coach Ed Hamm. "We rely on our athleticism too often to try to create scoring opportunities. I was pleased that we won a majority of the 50/50 balls tonight."
The Hornets won the B game 1-0 off a goal from Jessa Lohr.
The team will be back in action on Saturday, October 3 as they travel to Galeton.
