The Wellsboro Middle School Soccer team ended the 2015 season with a second place finish in the NTL Tournament and a 4-0 win over Williamson on Monday, October 26.
On Saturday at the NTL Tournament at Williamson, the Hornets started out by beating Williamson 2-1 in game one after falling behind 1-0 early. In game two they beat Galeton 1-0 on a penalty kick, and the Hornets won game three 2-0 over Sayre.
The fourth game did not go in the Hornets' favor as they lost 5-0 to Athens, but the team ended the full day of soccer on a high note by beating Liberty 2-1.
"I truly believe that everyone gave their best effort every game today," said head coach Ed Hamm. "It is never easy to beat a team three times in one season, but that is just what these kids did today."
On Monday, the Hornets shutout Williamson 4-0 in their final game of the season. Kerrah Clymer scored off an assist from Will Poirier with six seconds remaining in the first half. In the second half the Hornets would go on to score three more goals. Poirier would score twice with assists coming from Kaeden Mann and Conrad Becker, and Frank Kewitt scored off an assist from Austin Richards. Zach Rowland had four saves in goal.
"Once again I was lucky to have a great group of hard working players this year," Hamm said. "All these players are extremely coachable, and are simply great kids on and off the field."
