Six first half goals propelled the Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team past Towanda, 7-1 on Wednesday, September 30 in the rain.
The Lady Hornets went to work early as Freshman Julia Smith scored just two minutes into the game to take a 1-0 lead. Senior Brynn Ripley then scored in the 4th minute to make it 2-0 before Smith scored her second goal of the night 7:50 in for a 3-0 lead. Senior Alexa Singer scored the game's fourth goal in the 30th minute before freshman Emma Poirier and senior Lindsey Graver added two more quick goals to make it 6-0 at the half.
Graver scored her second goal of the game in the 46th minute to push it to 7-0 before Towanda's Lauren Risch scored in the 54th minute to break the shut out.
Graver and Smith both had two assists on the night and Ripley, Poirier, and sophomore Alyssa Yungwirth added one each.
Wellsboro controlled the ball for the majority of the game as they outshot Towanda 30-5 and had a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 4-3-1 (3-2-1 NTL). The team will be back in action today as they travel to Wyalusing.
