Senior Maggie Smith will continue her softball career next year at Millersville University.
As a Junior last year, Maggie was tied for the team lead in hits (24), had 21 RBI's, six home runs, and batted .400 for the year. On the mound she went 4-0, allowed 16 hits, and struck out 30 batters.
"I'm really excited about attending Millersville," Smith said. "It was a great honor to be recruited by Kathy Cummings, head softball coach and the team who were all very welcoming when I visited. I'd like to thank Coach Greg Carr, Coach Michelle McNett and John DeLeonardis for all of their support along with my teammates. I would also like to thank my parents and my sister, Hannah, for there constant support as well."
"We're very proud that Maggie received this scholarship from Millersville. She's worked very hard over the past several years," said Maggie's father Eric. "We're thrilled that she is going to play for a coach that is successful and has twenty years of experience coaching at the college level. She is going to get a great education and get to play in a very competitive PSAC conference. The PSAC has realigned this year with Millersville, Lock Haven, Bloomsburg, and Mansfield all playing in the same division so we are really happy that Maggie will get the chance to play close to home."
"We have truly enjoyed all of Maggie's softball experience from little league through high school and travel ball," aid Maggie's mom Margaret. "We greatly appreciate all of the coaching, conditioning, and support Maggie has received. Special thanks to Coach Carr, Coach McNett, and Mr. DeLeonardis for their investment and efforts. We're looking forward to good things for Maggie in the future, knowing that the efforts of many have helped get her there."
WellsboroAthletics.com would like to congratulate Maggie on her signing, and wish her the best of luck in her college career.
