Senior Mackenzie Marple scored a game-high 29 points to hand Mansfield a 51-50 loss Tuesday night. The loss for Mansfield was their first loss in the NTL West this season.
"We knew it was going to be a tough game and that they are a very talented team," Marple said. "We came out from the start and didn't let up. I'm so proud of the entire team."
Backing up Marple's game were Sophomore Jordan Butters, Senior Hannah Zuchowski and Senior Kimberly Acorn with six points each. Freshman Sarah Ingerick also had four points in the win.
Head Coach Mary Grab was very pleased with her team's performance on the night.
"The girls never gave up and kept pressure on the Mansfield team," said Grab. "Mansfield is a very talented, team with many contributors. We just took them one person at a time and tried to be vigilant in our zone as to where their shooters were."
Coach Grab also praised the play of Marple.
"I have to credit Mackenzie with her shooting performance. She has been struggling to finish, especially close to the basket and I watched at our last practice as she stayed later than everyone else working on just that, and it showed during the game."
The Hornets were also victorious in the JV game, keeping their undefeated season going at 11-0.
With the win, the Lady Hornets imrpove to 5-8 (2-1 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Thursday, January 10 as they host Cowanesque Valley.
