The Wellsboro Lady Hornets picked up their third win in a row as they defeated Cowanesque 43-28 Thursday night in Wellsboro.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to a 17-6 first quarter lead and never looked back as they picked up their third win in the last five days.
"It was a very physical and at times very sloppy. We hustled and played hard, but had a lot of silly fouled and turnovers," said head coach Mary Grab. "We let them back in the game twice, but were able to hit a couple key shots to turn momentum back our way."
Senior Guard Mackenzie Marple led the team in scoring with 16 points, including 4 three-pointers. Senior Kimberly Acorn and Freshman Sarah Ingerick each combined for 8 points to back up Marple. Rounding out the rest of the scoring were Senior Hannah Zuchowski with 5 points, Senior Kiana Acorn with 3 points, Sophomore Jordan Butters with 2, and Senior Jessie Catherman with one.
In the JV game, the Hornets beat Cowanesque 47-9 behind 18 points from Ingerick and 10 points from Freshman Stephanie Leister.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improve their 2012-13 season record to 6-8 (3-1 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Thursday, January 17 as they host Williamson.
