Hornet basketball crushes North Penn, 77-35

The Wellsboro Varsity boys basketball team scored 21 first quarter points on their way to a 77-35 NTL West win over rival North Penn Friday night in Blossburg.

The win, the first since their loss to Lewisburg in the Montoursville Holiday Tournament, was the Hornets 9th on the season and first in the NTL West.

Senior Jordan Jackson led the team with 21 points while Junior Joey Doganiero and Sophomore Kieron Smethers had 15 points each. Sophomore Michael Pietropola added six, Senior Matt Reese scored five while Junior Kyler Widows and Sophomore Nick Marple added four each.

Junior Jermain Brooks scored three while Junior Dylan Prough and Freshman Dawson Prough had two points each to round out the scoring for the night.

In the JV game, the Hornets picked up their fifth win of the 2012-13 season as they narrowly defeated North Penn, 33-31. Sophomore Jake Mitchell led the team with 8 points and Dawson Prough added 6.

The teams will be back in action this afternoon at home. The JV team faces off against Galeton at 1:00 p.m. and the Varsity team will follow them at 3:00 p.m. against Octorara Area.
