The Athens Lady Wildcats needed three sets to defeat the Wellsboro Junior High Volleyball team on Saturday morning.
"The A team game was a really competitive game," head coach Valery Weaver said. "Athens has a very strong program, and I'm proud of how our team performed despite the loss."
The first two sets were tightly contested, with the young Lady Hornets taking the first set 25-21. Athens then took the second 25-19 and held on for a 15-8 win in the third set to secure the victory.
Brynn Bourret led Wellsboro with 7 points on 1 ace with 2 digs while Natalie Weaver scored 5 points on 2 aces to go along with 6 digs and 2 kills. Kyerra Heck recorded 9 digs and scored 4 points on 2 aces, and Nora Mickey added 2 kills.
Ella Satalin scored 2 points (1 ace) and had a kill, Naleyah Greenfield had 2 kills and 2 blocks, and Leah Szentesy and Blair Parsons had 3 and 2 assists, respectively.
Athens also won the B team game, 2-1 (25-20, 23-25, 15-10).
The young Lady Hornets fall to 2-2 on the season and host Northeast Bradford on Monday.
