The Wellsboro Boys Soccer team suffered their first loss of the 2026 season, falling 3-1 on the road at Towanda on Thursday evening.
The Black Knights took the lead midway through the first half, then later increased their lead in the second half. With 9:31 Towanda scored on a penalty kick to make it 2-0. They later added an insurance goal with just under three minutes remaining to push the score to 3-0.
Wellsboro avoided the shutout with 37 seconds remaining as sophomore James Doughtie scored off an assist from senior Jacob Smith.
The Hornets out shot the Black Knights 24-4 and had an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The loss drops the Hornets to 2-1 (2-1 NTL). The team is back in action on Tuesday against North Penn-Liberty.
