A first-period goal by freshman Cody Tomlinson was all it took for the Wellsboro Boys Soccer team to knock off Athens Thursday evening.
Tomlinson's goal came off a cross from freshman Callen Novak with just over 14 minutes to play.
"I am so proud of the team, it was a complete team effort to get the win," said Hornet head coach John Shaffer. "We had some injuries coming in and picked up some more during the game. The depth of the team played a big part in earning the win. It was a mature way to get the result, we got the goal in the first half and then defended tough in the second half. Credit to Athens, they are a very good team. Credit to Cam Bryant in goal and the whole team for earning the shut out."
Wellsboro took 15 shots on goal and 7 corners. They held the Wildcats to 5 shots on goal and just one corner.
Junior Camden Bryant 3 saves in goal for this 4th shut out of the season.
The Hornets (5-1-1) are back in action Saturday morning at Jersey Shore.
