A 13-point 3rd quarter by Port Allegany pushed the Lady Gators to a 36-24 non-league win over the Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team Monday.
Port Allegany held a 9-5 lead after the end of the first quarter and doubled up the Lady Hornets 8-4 to push their lead to 17-9 at the half.
The Lady Gators outscored Wellsboro 13-6, further padding their lead at 30-15 heading into the 4th quarter. Wellsboro outscored Port Allegany 9-6 over the final 8 minutes.
Sophomore Adelyn Frantz led all scorers with 13 points while sophomore Kate Bryant finished with 5 points. Sophomore Amelia Hulslander added 4 points and senior Lily Wagner chipped in two points.
Jenna Renner scored 12 points and grabbed 6 rebounds to lead Port Allegany. Brynn Evens also added 8 points, 9 rebounds and blocked three shots.
Wellsboro split the evening by pulling out a 24-22 win in the JV game to end a four-game skid and improve to 4-7. Freshman Shayla Hamblin had 13 points, freshman Lena Rothermel added 6, sophomore Jennifer Belz had 4, and freshman Dillyn Patt added one point.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 3-8 (1-5 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action Wednesday against Troy.
