Senior Makenna Robbins recently signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her swim career next year at Lycoming College.

Robbins will join her old sister Madison, who is currently a member of the Lycoming Swim team. Robbins, a four-time District IV qualifier, has competed all four years as part of the Wellsboro program, plus 10 years on her YMCA and Parks & Rec teams.

Presently, Robbins has qualified for this District IV Championships in the 50 Free, 100 Breaststroke, and the 200 IM. She currently holds top times for the Lady Hornets in the 100 Back (1:13.69), 100 Breaststroke (1:17.25), and the 200 IM (2:33.76). She is also 2nd on the team in the 50 Free (27.61), 100 Free (1:01.74), and the 200 Free (2:18.83).

"They (Lycoming) first reached out to me through my sister," Robbins said. "I went to a few clinics they held and I went on an overnight visit to watch their practice and hangout with the team."

One of the things Robbins loved about Lycoming was its closeness to home.

"I really enjoyed how Lyco isn't too far from home and how it's a small campus, so you ge tthe opportunity to be one on one with the professors," she added. "My sister is on the swim team so she played a big role in me continuing my swim career there. I wasn't looking at any other schools, I knew Lyco was the right fit."

Second year head coach Jenn Sporer had high praise for her senior captain when she found out she'd be attending Lycoming.

"Her voice, skills, rapport with teammates, coachability, knowledge, work ethic, and overall leadership, is what sets her apart," noted Sporer. "Makenna is incredibly strong in all 4 swim strokes, however the 100 Breaststroke and 200 IM is what captures her heart. Makenna's work ethic is bar none. She maintains outstanding grades, works full-time, plays multiple sports, and competes as part of the Skills USA program for Wellsboro High School.

"Her commitment to swimming began at age 7 as part of the Wellsboro Parks & Rec summer swim program. She's also worked as a lifeguard and has taught swimming lessons at the Packer Park Pool for three years. In addition to swimming for Wellsboro, she's also competed for the Jersey Shore YMCA swim team in the winter months for the last 10 years."

Sporer went on to say, "Lycoming College is truly blessed to have this caliber of student athlete commit to both academics and athletics as part of their campus next year. After coaching multiple sports for over two decades, I can say that Makenna is incredibly special as a student, athlete, and most importantly, as a person - she brings so much to the table! I know I can speak for Coach (Anne) Anderegg and our entire team in saying that Makenna will truly be missed next year. However, we will be cheering her on as she swims as a Warrior for Lycoming College - the name suits her!"
