Junior Syler Pietrzyk threw a one-hitter while junior Coen Tennis and freshman Gage Baltzley had big days at the plate to lead the Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team to a 13-0 shutout of Williamson on Sunday afternoon.
Pietrzyk went the full 7 innings on the mound, with the lone Williamson hit coming in the third, to go along with a walk and 7 strikeouts.
Tennis led Wellsboro at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a triple, scoring 2 runs and driving in a pair of runs. Baltzley was 2-for-2 with a double and 4 RBIs. The Hornets had 11 hits total on the afternoon.
The Hornets took the early lead with 4 runs in the 1st, then added 3 more in the 3rd and 4 in the 4th, before closing out the 5th with a pair of runs.
Sophomore Gabe Cuneo (2-for-4), senior Marek Mascho (2-for-4) joined Tennis and Baltzley with multi-hit games while senior Cameron Owlett and sophomore Kody Enck added solo hits. Junior Max Mascho scored 3 runs, Tennis, Cuneo and sophomore Wyatt Sporer all scored twice, and Marek Mascho, sophomore Griffin Morral, Owlett, and senior Dylan Copp crossed home plate once.
The win is Pietrzyk's fourth of the season (4-0).
Xander Stafford had the lone hit for Williamson and Spencer Vandelinder took the loss on the mound, allowing 11 runs (7 earned) on 9 hits with 3 walks.
The win is the 11th straight for the Hornets, improving their record to 15-2 (13-1 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action this afternoon, for their continuation of their suspended game with Athens from April 21. The game will resume in the top of the 11 tied at 4-all.
