Junior Luna Moyer and sophomore Haylie Smith scored goals in the Wellsboro Girls Soccer team's 2-0 regular season finale at Athens on Saturday morning.
"We came out with tremendous intensity and did a great job adapting to a new formation after losing a centerback to injury in our last game," said head coach Michael Reese. "The girls embraced the challenge, stayed organized and did an excellent job limiting Athens’ opportunities. Luna and Haylie finished their chances, with Haylie adding an assist."
Moyer put the Lady Hornets on the scoreboard with 4:10 left in the opening half, as she converted a pass from Smith to find the back of the net.
Smith later scored an insurance goal with 40 seconds remaining.
Senior Jadyn Dunalp was perfect in goal, stopping all 11 of the Lady Wildcats' shots for her 11th shutout of the season and 26th of her career. She is also made 582 career saves.
The teams played a modified, 8-versus-8, 40-minute JV game, which saw the Lady Hornets come out on top, 3-1. Dunlap scored a pair of goals and junior Shaina Harrison added one. Sophomore Olive Twoey made 9 saves in goal.
"I was also really proud of our JV girls, who moved the ball extremely well and made the most of their opportunities," Reese continued. "Olive was exceptional in goal for the JV game and deserves a lot of credit for her performance. This was a complete team effort and the girls deserve a lot of credit for how they responded after the last loss."
The Lady Hornets finish their season 13-4-1 (11-2-1 NTL). The team has earned the #3 seed in the District IV Class 2A standings, and will take on #6 Lewisburg at a time and location to be determined.
