Lady Hornets Earn First Win In 2-0 Shutout Over Wyalusing

Junior Kate Bryant scored a pair of second half goals to give the Wellsboro Girls Soccer team their first win of the season Wednesday at Wyalusing.

Bryant struck two and a half minutes into the second half to put the Lady Hornets up, 1-0. She later struck with 14:32 to give the Lady Hornets an insurance goal.

Both goals were unassisted and came off of direct kicks off fouls.

Wellsboro out shot the Lady Rams 8-5 and had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Senior Jadyn Dunlap made 4 saves in goal for her first shutout of the season.

"Wyalusing is a tough, physical team with a lot of athletes, and they made us earn this one," second year head coach Michael Reese said. "I thought our defensive organization was excellent. We did a great job recognizing their attack and staying disciplined, and that allowed Jadyn to earn her first clean sheet of the season. That was a complete team defensive effort.

"We weren't great moving the ball early, but we found a way to put pressure on their defense and create chances," continued Reese. "Kate was fantastic on the free kicks, and those two goals were huge for us. It was a battle from start to finish, and I'm really proud of the way our girls competed and found a way to win."

The win improves the Lady Hornets to 1-1 (1-0 NTL). The team is off until after Labor Day when they hit the road and head back East to face off against Northeast Bradford on September 9.
