Lady Hornets 2nd, Boys 3rd, At Molly Dry Invite

Wellsboro's Track & Field teams continued their strong starts to the 2026 season by bringing home a pair of top-3 finishes at Thursday's Molly Dry Memorial Invite at Mansfield University's Karl Van Norman Field.

The Lady Hornets finished 2nd overall with 150.5 points. Corning-Painted Post won with 215. Jersey Shore (127) was 3rd, Montgomery (72) finished 4th, and Campbell-Savona (NY) was 5th with 64 points.

The Hornets were 3rd overall with 103 points, finishing behind Bradford (219) and Corning-Painted Post (166.5). Jersey Shore (81.5) was 4th and South Williamsport (41) came home 5th.

"It is still early in the season, but this team is very impressive," commented girls head coach Elizabeth Hoover. "Lauren Kosek is running faster with each lap she takes. Last night she ran an impressive 1600, breaking the invitational record and the school record. But with the help of her teammates, the girls got a second place behind a powerful Corning track and field team. It was a great night for us!"

Junior Lauren Kosek set a new school record in the 1600m run, beating her previous mark of 5:09.04 with a time of 5:06.03, beating the 2nd place finisher by 28 seconds.

Junior Piper Hoprich (12.58) and sophomore Luna Moyer (13.34) were 1st and 3rd in the 100m. Hoprich (26.10) also claimed gold in the 200m. Bella Hawn (1:11.38) was 11th in the 400m, Kosek took 1st in the 800m (2:33.36) and was 2nd in the 3200m (12:22.70). Sophomore Jennifer Belz (19.34) was 9th in the 100m hurdles with freshman Lilly Sprouse (19.57) behind her in 10th, sophomore Isla Twoey (50.80) took 1st in the 300m hurdles with sister Olive Twoey (54.37) finishing 7th, and sophomore Anja Przybycien (11:05.47) was 3rd in the steeplechase while senior Lily Wagner (12:32.19), senior Evelyn Wetherbee (12:32.28) and freshman Joelle Bull (12:33.77) finished 6th-8th.

Sophomore Lauren Gehman (4-ft, 6) and senior Olivia Gage (4-ft, 6) were 4th and 6th in the high jump, Gehman (14-ft, 4.25) and Isla Twoey (14-ft, 2.5) were 3rd and 4th in the long jump, and Isla Twoey (32-ft, 6.25) and Gehman (31-ft, 6.25) were 3rd and 4th in the triple jump.

Junior Ellie Largey and senior Megan Mosher both cleared 7-feet in the pol vault to finish 4th and 5th, respectively, sophomore Serenity Mosher (73-ft, 7) was 9th in the discus, junior Sienna Zengerle (85-ft, 11.25) was 5th in the javelin with senior Taylor Main (78-ft, 8.25) was 7th, and sophomore Katie Whitney (24-ft, 1.25) was 13th in the shot put.

The Lady Hornets won the 4x100m relay (51.14), was 3rd in the 4x400m (4:52.64) and 5th in the 4x800m (12:57.91).

For the boys, senior Jacoby Strang (12.13) was 5th in the 100m, senior Jonathan Carl (23.91) took 2nd in the 200m, freshman Austin DeShazo (1:03.29) was 15th in the 400m, senior Jude Cuneo (2:06.05) captured 1st in the 800m, senior Henry Whitney (4:34.56) was 3rd in the 1600m with senior Max Macias (5:02.16) in 8th, freshman Taitt Webster (12:16.46) and senior Henry Nowak (12:49.08) were 9th and 10th in the 3200m, senior David Seeling (17.54) and sophomore Brayden Benjamin (17.82) were 4th and 6th in the 110m hurdles, Seeling (42.86) was 2nd in the 300m hurdles, and Nowak (9:29.14), Macias (9:29.31) and senior Ethan Geneski (9:30.61) were 5th-7th in the steeplechase.

Seeling (5-ft, 11) won the high jump, Benjamin (18-ft, 2.25) and freshman Liam Stevens (17-ft, 10.75) were 4th and 6th in the long jump, Carl (42-ft, 4.5) was 2nd in the triple jump, and juniors Zander Rachiele (8-ft) and Dylan Tomlinson (7-ft) were 10th and 11th in the pole vault.

Freshman Conlen Whitsell (104-ft, 3) was 10th in the discus, sophomore Ransom Schultz (141-ft, 7) was 3rd in the javelin and also finished 8th in the shot put (37-ft, 8.25).

The Hornets also brought home a pair of 3rd place finishes in the 4x100m (47.99) and the 4x800m (9:12.19) relays.

"I was proud of our kids for overcoming obstacles throughout the day," added boys head coach Brigette Largey. "All of our boys worked hard but these ones placed in the top: David, Brayden, Henry Whitney, Jude, Jonathan, and Ransom."

The team is back in action Tuesday at Wyalusing for an NTL quad-meet with the Rams, Canton and Towanda.
