The Wellsboro JV Baseball team split a doubleheader with Troy Wednesday afternoon, winning the first game 5-2 and dropping the second, 5-1.
In game one the Hornets plated three runs in the 1st and added two more in the 2nd to jump out to the early lead. Troy got runs in the 4th and 5th, but Wellsboro's defense held firm, and didn't allow the Trojans to complete a rally.
Freshman Maddon Mascho led the Hornets at the plate, going 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored. Sophomore Kody Enck was 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs and a run scored, sophomore Colton Reese was 1-for-2 with an RBI and senior Dylan Copp also went 1-for-2 with a run scored.
Copp threw one inning on the mound, allowing one hit. Senior Jacob Heckman pitched the other three innings, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts.
In game two the Trojans flipped the script as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead through the first four innings before the Hornets got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 4th. Freshman Reed Moyer crossed home plate on an RBI from Reese.
Enck had two of the Hornets' 4 hits in the game. Freshmen Wyatt Sporer and Eli Nowak added the other two hits.
Reese threw two and a third innings, allowing 3 runs on one hit with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. Junior Braxton Kerr threw a third of an inning, walking two, and Mascho threw one and a third innings, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits with a walk and a strikeout.
The JV team takes on rival North Penn-Mansfield next on the 22nd.
