Wellsboro suffered a pair of losses to rival North Penn-Mansfield in JV action Wednesday afternoon.
The Tigers took game one 6-5, breaking a 5-all tie in the bottom of the 5th. Wellsboro started the game off with a pair of runs, only to have the Tigers plate 3 in the bottom half of the inning. Mansfield added one more in the 2nd to take a 4-2 lead, but Wellsboro dug in and retook the lead with 3 runs in the top of the 3rd.
Mansfield scored in the bottom of the 3rd to tie it at 5 and held the Hornets scoreless in the 5th.
Junior Braxton Kerr and sophomore Wyatt Sporer both finished 2-for-3 at the plate to make up 4 of the Hornets' 7 hits in the game. Freshman Maddon Mascho, sophomore Colton Reese, and senior Jacob Heckman added the remaining hits. Sporer crossed home plate twice while Mascho, Reese, and freshman Eli Nowak scored solo runs.
Sophomore Griffin Morral and Heckman both saw action on the mound. Morral threw two innings, giving up 4 runs on 6 walks with 2 strikeouts. Heckman pitched the final two and two thirds innings. He allowed one hit, 2 runs, walked one and struck out one.
In game two the Tigers won by a score of 13-2 in three innings. Mansfield jumped out to a 9-1 lead after the first inning, then scored two runs in both the 2nd and third.
Wellsboro scored in the bottom of the 1st and bottom of the 3rd. Mascho and Sporer scored Wellsboro's runs. Mascho, Sporer and Nowak had Wellsboro's three hits. Sporer and Kerr also drove in runs.
The Hornets fall to 2-4 and are participating in the Troy JV Tournament on Saturday.
