The Wellsboro Junior High Basketball teams split with rival North Penn-Mansfield in their home opener Tuesday evening.

The young Lady Hornets won the A game 16-13 but dropped the B game, 16-14.

"We had an exciting game against Mansfield," said girls head coach Darrell Morris. "It was sloppy at times, but our defense really got it done in the second half and we scored just enough to hold on. I am so happy for our 8th graders winning their first ever junior high game."

Naleyah Greenfield scored 10 points to lead Wellsboro while Isobel Kennedy, Ella Satalin and Blair Parsons added two points each. Greenfield pulled down 12 rebounds, Satalin had 4 boards, Natalie Weaver added 2 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists, Parsons had 2 rebounds, and Kennedy made 2 steals and had an assist.

Brynn Bourret scored 10 points in the B game while Parsons chipped in four.

The boys team fell 44-21 in the A game and 27-18 in the B game.

"The Tigers pressure and experience too much for Hornets," said Coach Ed Hamm. "Even though the scoreboard didn't reflect it, Wellsboro showed improvement from game one."

Bransyn Jessup scored 11 points in the A game while Kohlsen Jones added 5, Kairoh Wills chipped in 4 and Austin Allen added 2. Jones added 8 rebounds and Wills had an assist and 2 steals.

Allen scored 14 points in the B game and Eden Johnson scored 4.

The girls team is back in action at North Penn-Liberty this evening while the boys team travels there Thursday night.
