Wellsboro's Bocce Ball team captured first place at the Northern Tier Interscholastic Unified Sports Bocce League Championships on Wednesday at Williamson.
The Hornets were the #2 seed and had a first round bye to the semi-finals.
In the first match the Hornets squared off against Troy and won 7-3. Wellsboro started off with two points through the first two frames. Troy scored once in the 3rd to cut the lead in half, but then the Hornets went on a 5-2 run in the 4th-7th frames to secure the win.
Wellsboro then took on Williamson, who defeated Canton in their semi-final match. Again, the Hornets got off to a quick start, scoring six points in the first three frames. Wellsboro and Williamson then traded solo points over the next three frames before the Hornets sealed the 9-2 win, and the championship, with a two-point 7th frame.
"It was a great night for the Wellsboro Bocce team and school community," head coach Jacob Rogers said. "It is our third year with the program, and coming away as league champions is a testament to all the hard work and dedication our student athletes put into the season. They support each other on and off the court. The smiles and excitement on their faces when we won is what it is all about. We are excited to participate in regionals in State College on Tuesday in hopes of continuing our season!"
