The Wellsboro Boys Basketball team honored seniors Luke Rothermel, Jonathan Carl and Marek Mascho with a 61-22 win over Canton during Senior Night on Wednesday.
"Nice senior night win," head coach Ron Doughtie said. "Those three have been a big part of our team the last few years. Good to see everyone get some points and playing time."
Wellsboro jumped out to an early 17-8 lead, with all three seniors scoring in the quarter. After an 18-4 run in the 2nd the Hornets held a 35-12 lead. After the halftime break, Wellsboro produced a 9-2 run in the 3rd quarter before closing out the game on a 17-8 run.
Carl led a balanced Hornet scoring attack with 10 points on the evening, followed by 8 points from junior Colin Fletcher. Rothermel, Mascho and freshman Braylen Jessup all added 7 points apiece, sophomore Kody Enck pitched in 6 points, junior Gideon Lawton finished with 4, sophomores Griffin Morral and Keegan VanZile chipped in 3 points each, and junior Ethan Keane, sophomore RJ Doughtie and freshman James Doughtie all added 2 points each.
Carl added 6 rebounds, Keane dished out six assists and pulled down 5 boards, Rothermel added 3 rebounds and 3 assists, and Fletcher had 2 assists and 2 steals.
Lawton also added 3 assists and 2 rebounds.
Ryder Route led Canton with 8 points.
The Hornets kept the undefeated JV season intact with a 52-16 blowout of the Warriors. Freshman Maddon Mascho led the team with 12 points while sophomore Sean Ladd added 8 points and freshman Christian Main contributed 7.
Wellsboro evens their record back up at 8-8 while improving to 7-4 in the NTL Large School Division. The team is back in action tomorrow night as they make the short trip east on Route 6 to take on rival North Penn-Mansfield.
