After an early North Penn-Liberty goal the Wellsboro Boys Soccer team scored 5 unanswered goals of their own to sweep the season series with the rival Mounties on Monday afternoon.
Wellsboro combined for 15 goals in both match ups this year with North Penn-Liberty while allowing just two goals.
David Graf scored in the 13th minute of the 1st half to give the Mounties the early lead, however the Hornets didn't wait long for their first goal. Three minutes after North Penn-Liberty opened the scoring junior Gabe Cuneo knotted the game up at 1-all on a penalty kick. From that point on, Wellsboro went on a goal-scoring spree.
With 11 minutes remaining in the opening half sophomore Maddon Mascho gave Wellsboro the lead. Then, sophomore Liam Stevens scored back-to-back goals in the second half. His first was assisted by Cuneo. The second came off a Mascho assist. Freshman Cody Tomlinson closed out the scoring with right around a minute left to play.
Wellsboro took 26 shots on goal and held the Mounties to just 4 shots. The Hornets also had a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior Camden Bryant made 1 save.
Wellsboro improves to 11-1-2 overall and 10-1-1 in the NTL. The team is back in action Friday at Galeton.
