The Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team celebrated their Senior Class of 2026 with a 15-1 drubbing of Northeast Bradford Thursday afternoon for their ninth win in a row.
"Tonight was a step in the right direction, as we have several games to squeeze in at the end of the regular season," head coach Kyle Smith said. "We celebrated our four seniors before the game and they have all had meaningful impacts on our team and baseball program. We don't take their contributions for granted and always appreciate their leadership, dedication and cohesiveness they have shown to our team."
The Hornets wasted little time as they scored 4 runs in the 1st then added 4 more in the 3rd to take a commanding 8-0 lead.
Northeast Bradford scored their lone run in the top of the 4th, then Wellsboro quickly answered with 7 more runs in the bottom half to end the game early.
Wellsboro had 13 hits on the afternoon, led by senior Marek Mascho and sophomore Gabe Cuneo who both went 3-for-4. Junior Max Mascho and freshman Gage Baltzley both finished 2-for-2 and junior Braxton Kerr (1-for-1), junior Coen Tennis (1-for-2), and freshman Maddon Mascho (1-for-1) made up the remaining hits. Baltzley and Marek and Maddon Mascho all hit doubles.
Max Mascho crossed home plate three times, Marek Mascho and Tennis scored twice, and sophomore Griffin Morral, Kerr, Cuneo, senior Cameron Owlett, Baltzley, and Maddon Mascho all scored once. Baltzley drove in 4 runs, Marek Mascho, Max Mascho, and senior Jacob Heckman had 2 RBIs, and Kerr, Tennis, and sophomore Reed Richardson all drove in solo runs.
Baltzley threw a complete game, two-hitter, for his 4th win of the season. He allowed one run, walked two and struck out 7.
Cooper Hugo and Brad Shores had the two hits for Northeast Bradford.
"In addition to our seniors, Gage had a strong night on the mound and at the plate," added Smith. "Gabe was consistent at the plate and has played great defense all season, and Coen does a multitude of things for us everyday behind the plate and in the batters box. Max had key hits tonight for us as well."
The win improves the Hornets to 13-2 (11-1 NTL). The team is back in action this afternoon against Wyalusing.
