The Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team suffered a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Warrior Run at Mansfield University Friday afternoon.
"Tonight was tough, but our team had a successful season and played the game the right way," head coach Kyle Smith said. "The upperclassmen have shown great leadership and we are thankful for the contributions they have made to this team and program. We are proud of the efforts of the team and are optimistic about the future."
Cohen Zechman got things started for the Defenders, leading the game off with a triple then scoring the next at bat on a sac fly by Colin Brandt. The Defenders plated two more runs in the inning to take a 3-0 lead, then added solo runs in the 3rd and the 5th innings.
Senior Marek Mascho had the Hornets' lone hit in the game. He was also credited with the loss on the mound, allowing 4 runs on 3 hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Junior Max Mascho threw three innings in relief, allowing one run on one hit with two walks and 6 strikeouts.
Junior Syler Pietrzyk threw the final two innings for the Hornets, walking one and striking out one.
Zechman went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Defenders, while Griffen Harrington threw a complete game on the mound, allowing the one hit by Mascho to go along with 3 walks and 11 strikeouts.
The Hornets conclude their 2026 season as NTL Large School Division co-champs and an 18-3 (14-1 NTL Large School Division) record, which included a 14-game win streak.
