Hornet Offense Explodes For 10-0 Shutout Over Wyalusing

The Wellsboro Boys Soccer team went on an all-out goal scoring assault on Wyalusing Saturday morning, defeating the Rams 10-0, to sweep the season series.

The Hornets outscored Wyalusing 21-0, beating them 11-0 in their first meeting of the season.

Wellsboro scored four first-half goals on Saturday, then added another six in the second half while senior Kayden Rogers made 1 save for his second shutout of the season.

Juniors Xavier Lecker and RJ Doughtie both scored a pair of goals, while junior Gabe Cuneo, freshman Cody Tomlinson, sophomore Liam Stevens, junior Octavian Wyman, senior Colin Fletcher and freshman Callen Novak added single goals.

Cuneo, Fletcher, Doughtie, Cody Tomlinson (2) and senior Dylan Tomlinson all had assists.

The Hornets took 29 shots on goal and 13 corner kicks.

"I'm really proud of how the team played," head coach John Shaffer said. "A real team effort. We had a player pick up an injury in warm ups and we needed a few players to step up. Scoring ten goals and having a player score no more than two shows the depth of the team. Congrats to Kayden and the team on another shut out."

The win is the second in a row for the team, improving them to 8-1-2 (7-1-1) on the year. The team is back in action Monday at Troy.
