The Wellsboro Bocce Ball team wrapped up their season with a bronze medal performance Tuesday at Nittany Valley Sports Centre in State College at the Interscholastic Unified Bocce regional tournament.
"Making it to regionals for the first time has been a great experience. The team displayed perseverance after the second round loss and came away with the bronze medal. Watching the friendships continue to grow over the season has been the real winner throughout this experience," said coach Jacob Rogers and coach Nicole Schea.
The Hornets edged Berwick 5-4 to win their first game. Wellsboro trailed 2-0 after the first two frames but rallied with 4 points over the next two frames to take the lead. Berwick cut the lead to 4-3 with a point in the 5th, however Wellsboro countered with a point in the 6th, then held the Bulldogs to a point in the 7th to hang on for the win.
In their second game the Hornets fell to eventual runner-up DuBois, 10-2. Wellsboro held a 2-1 lead following the 2nd frame, and we then outscored 9-0 over the next five frames.
Wellsboro then defeated Shikellamy 16-1 to win bronze. Down 1-0 after the first frame the Hornets unleashed their offensive prowess with 3 points in the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd, 4 in both the 4th and 5th frames, and 3 points in the 6th.
