Junior Piper Hoprich broke her current school record, and set a new meet record, in the 100m at Friday's BlueJay Classic.
Hoprich ran a 12.36 in the prelim round of the 100m before shattering her old record (11.98) with an 11.91 in the finals. She was the only 100m runner to go sub-12 seconds. She also captured gold in the 200m (25.14), blowing away the field by over a full second.
Wellsboro had a great afternoon in the team standings, finishing 3rd overall in the girls meet with 97.5 points, while the boys took 4th with 69 points.
"I'm actually thinking we do better in the rain and cold temperatures," said girls head coach Elizabeth Hoover. "This team did not let undesirable weather hold them back. My focus at this meet was the 4x400 and the 4x800m relays. I really wanted to get those two teams to districts. The girls not only met my expectations, but they exceeded them. Both teams have now qualified. I didn't take all of my top three athletes to this invitational, but we ended up being third overall. It was a great day!"
