The doubles team of juniors Amanda Goncalves and Piper Anderegg won a pair of matches to reach the quarterfinals of the District IV Girls Tennis doubles tournament at Williamsport on Saturday.

The sixth-seeded duo started the morning by defeating Milton's Maddie Coup and Elliot Brosious - 6-1, 6-1 - then won over Hughesville's Naomi Farley and Shelby Myers - 6-2, 6-1. Goncalves and Angeregg then drew Central Columbia's team of Cassandra Marte and Zoe Seely, the #3 ranked team, where they fell 6-4, 7-6.

Wellsboro's team of seniors Angela Cory and Kyleigh Lynn were defeated by South Williamsport's Peyton Coolidge and Carly Loudenslager in the first round: 6-1, 6-0.

"As much fun as today was, it stings a little bit knowing that it was the last time I get to coach Angie, Kyleigh, and Amanda," said head coach Spencer Kreisler. "Angie and Kyleigh have both been such a huge part of turning this program around. They were both such great captains this year and will truly be missed next year. I can't imagine it was enjoyable for them playing in 40-degree weather this morning, but we made the best of it.

"As for Amanda and Piper's results today, I felt terrible that they had to cancel their homecoming dinner reservations, but it just meant we had made it to the quarterfinals," Kreisler continued. "They both had to put up with the new 'coaching on the fly' rule and had to listen to me yell out plays, shot combos, or for Amanda; mispronounced German words that usually made her say 'I have no idea what you're trying to say, just use English,' which I thought could help give us the edge today. And for the first two rounds, it was flawless, so I felt like we were going to roll right through our quarterfinal match and make it to the semifinals on Monday. But, we ended up running into a very good Central Columbia team that brought our season to a close; and helped them make it back to the homecoming dance on time. For only playing doubles a handful of times together before today, it was like watching two friends that had played together for years. Although it wasn’t the way I wanted to see our season end, I was extremely proud of how all four of our girls played today."

The NTL Champion Lady Hornets finish the season 9-7 (4-0).
