Senior Jadyn Dunlap became the Wellsboro Girls Soccer team's all-time saves leader as she helped the Lady Hornets blank Northeast Bradford, 4-0, Thursday evening.
Dunlap made 8 saves in goal for her sixth shutout of the season and 21st of her career. Dunlap's now 540 career saves surpasses Kailee Clymer (2018) who made 536 saves in goal.
Wellsboro got off to a fast start with three first-half goals, with their first one coming in less than four minutes into the game as senior Megan Newruck assisted sophomore Haylie Smith. Smith later struck with 12:15 remaining on an assist from junior Rosa Sguera, making it 2-0. Wellsboro sneaked in a goal right before the first half ended as Smith assisted junior Lauren Gehman to put the Lady Hornets up 3-0 at the break.
Wellsboro's final goal came with 17:33 remaining in the game on a goal from junior Luna Moyer, assisted by sophomore Olive Twoey.
The Lady Hornets out-shot NEB 11-8. Both teams had 3 corner kicks apiece.
"We played well, moved the ball and got contributions from a lot of different players," head coach Michael Reese said. "I was especially happy for Olive getting her first career assist. Those are the moments players remember. Having our WAYS players here, walking onto the field with our varsity players and being part of the night made it even more special. Hopefully they left wanting to come back and do it themselves someday."
The win improves the Lady Hornets to 8-2-1 overall and 7-0-1 in the NTL standings. The team is back in action on Tuesday at rival North Penn-Mansfield.
