Senior Jonathan Carl set his second school record of the season as the Wellsboro Track & Field teams swept Troy and Sayre Tuesday afternoon.
Carl ran a 22.94 in the 200m to break Caleb Getty's old mark of 23.06, set back in 2010. Carl also set the school's 400m record earlier this season against Troy, Williamson and Wyalusing.
"I'm very proud of how far Jonathan has come," boys head coach Brigette Largey said. "He's been working extremely hard this year. When I asked him to try out the 200, he immediately said yes, and within three meets, he broke the record. He's a great track athlete and I can't wait to see what else he does for the rest of this year."
As a team the Hornets scored 91.5 points. Troy took 2nd with 73.5 and Sayre finished 3rd with 7. In the girls meet the Lady Hornets ran away from the field with 109 points. Troy scored 62 to finish 2nd and Sayre came home 3rd with 12 points.
Carl also won the 100m in 11.54 followed by senior Jacoby Strang (11.88) in 3rd, senior Aaron Kirk (24.97) was 3rd in the 200m, sophomore Logan Johnson (57.91) was 2nd in the 400m with junior Dylan Tomlinson (1:01.09) coming home in 4th, senior David Seeling swept the hurdles, taking the 110m in 16.70 and the 300m in 45.01, and senior Henry Whitney swept the distance events, running 2:04.33 in the 800m, 5:13.47 in the 1600m and 11:58.38 in the 3200m.
Seeling (6-ft) won the high jump, Carl (19-ft, 10.75), freshman Liam Stevens (19-ft, 10.25) and sophomore Ransom Schultz (17-ft, 7) swept the long jump, and Carl completed the sweep of his events by taking 1st place in the triple jump (40-ft, 11.75). Freshman Desmun Hennigan (35-ft, 3.25) was 3rd in the triple jump.
Junior Zander Rachiele (8-ft) and Tomlinson took 3rd and 4th in the pole vault, freshman Conlen Whitsell (101-ft, 4) took 2nd in the discus, and Schultz (40-ft) was 2nd in the shot put.
The Hornets won the 4x100m relay (46.95) and were 2nd in both the 4x400m (3:59.03) and the 4x800m (10:16.55) relays.
For the girls, junior Piper Hoprich (12.40), sophomore Luna Moyer (13.32) and senior Sophia Yoder (13.60) swept the 100m, Hoprich (25.08) also won the 200m with sophomore Jennifer Belz (29.43) finishing 3rd, and junior Lauren Kosek swept all the distance events, winning the 400m (1:06.56), the 800m (2:42.95), the 1600m (5:56.88) and the 3200m (13.47.74). Freshman Kaci Kosek was 2nd in the 800m (2:48.73) and sophomore Molly Tice (6:58.05) was 3rd in the 1600m.
Belz was 2nd in the 100m hurdles (18.22) with freshman Olive Twoey (18.53) right behind her in 3rd, sophomore Isla Twoey (50.46) won the 300m hurdles, senior Kristina Belz won the high jump (4-ft, 8), Isla Twoey (16-ft, 3.5) won the long jump with sophomore Lauren Gehman (15-ft, 2.5) finishing 4th, Isla Twoey (32-ft, 2) won the triple jump with Gehman (31-ft, 0.5) behind her in 2nd, and senior Megan Mosher (7-ft) was 2nd in the pole vault.
Sophomore Katie Whitney (74-ft, 2.5) was 4th in the discus with sophomore Serenity Mosher (72-ft, 1) in 5th, freshman June Roth (41-ft, 8) took 2nd in the javelin, and Whitney (26-ft, 2) was 2nd in the shot put.
The Lady Hornets swept the relays, winning the 4x100m (50.78), the 4x400m (4:48.81) and the 4x800m (12:27.00).
Both teams are back in action next Tuesday at Canton.
