Wellsboro's Track & Field teams are sending one relay, and one individual, onto the PIAA Track & Field Championships after day one of the District IV Championships Thursday in Milton.

The boys' 4x800m relay team of seniors David Seeling, Jude Cuneo, Max Macias and Henry Whitney brought home a 6th place finish in 8:14.57, just beating the state qualifying time of 8:15.55.

"Not only did they drop the baton, they also dropped four seconds from their PR and qualified for states," commented boys head coach Brigette Largey. "This is a great group of boys."

Junior Lauren Kosek also punched her ticket to states in the 3200m with a 2nd place finish. Kosek recorded a new personal best 10:43.00, beating her previous 3200m record (10:44.88) by nearly two seconds. Kosek, along with Lewisburg's Baylee Espinosa, broke the District IV record of 10:50.91, set by Loyalsock's Isabel Sagar in 2018.

"Another record broken and a state time grabbed," said girls head coach Elizabeth Hoover. "Even though the weather was a bit chilly, it was perfect for Lauren. I am excited to see what she accomplishes on Saturday!"

For the boys, sophomore Brayden Benjamin qualified for Saturday's finals in the 110m hurdles with a 7th place finish (16.81). Whitney finished 9th (9:57.78) in the 3200m with Macias in 13th (10:19.65), and freshman Liam Stevens was 15th (19-ft, 2) in the long jump.

On the girls' side, junior Piper Hoprich cruised to win her 100m semi-final heat, running a state-qualifying time of 12.20. Sophomore Luna Moyer also qualified for Saturday's finals with a 7th place (13.00) finish while senior Sophia Yoder finished 15th (13.26). Freshman Olive Twoey placed 16th (18.13) in the 100m hurdles with sophomore Jennifer Belz finishing 23rd (20.34). Senior Kristina Belz finished 7th (16-ft, 1) in the long jump with sophomore Isla Twoey taking 16th (13-ft, 4) and the girls' 4x800m relay team was 16th (11:49.72).

The Hornets are currently in 16th place in the Class 2A Boys meet with 3 points, while the Lady Hornets are tied for 6th with Canton with 10 points.

The action resumes Saturday at 9:30 a.m. back at Milton.
