Junior Piper Anderegg and sophomore Amanda Goncalves each won matches at Saturday's District IV Girls Tennis singles tournament at Williamsport.

Anderegg defeated Bloomsburg's Suhani Vishwakarma in straight sets - 6-1, 6-4 - in the opening round. She then fell to Danville's Alexa Preisz - 6-2, 6-2.

Goncalves was seeded 4th overall and had a first-round bye. She faced off against Montoursville's Elsa Kehrer in her first match, winning 6-2, 6-3. She then took on Loyalsock's Caroline Crawford, and fell 6-3, 6-3.

"I couldn't be happier with the results from today," head coach Spencer Kreisler said. "Amanda and Piper were both able to secure wins at districts ending a drought in the Wellsboro Girls Tennis program. Throughout the season, Amanda has been an outstanding player and a big part of this team. Reaching the quarterfinals is a great accomplishment. She's been one of the most intelligent players that I've gotten to coach and although she'll only be here for this year, she's made a lasting impact on our program. Piper has shown a lot of dedication leading up to this season by putting in many hours on the courts over the summer. Improving from rotating in and out of second doubles last season to second singles this year shows that the hours were not wasted. This win at districts is a great stepping stone leading up to her senior season."

The team now turns their attention to Thursday's District IV quarterfinal team playoff match against Central Columbia.
