A 39-point second half by the Loyalsock Lancers gave them a 63-42 season-opening win over the Wellsboro Boys Basketball team Friday.
The Hornets outscored Loyalsock 13-11 in the opening quarter to take an early lead, but were outscored 13-9 in the 2nd quarter to trail 24-22 at the half.
Loyalsock took control of the game with a 21-point 3rd quarter, outscoring the Hornets by 10 points, to pull away. Loyalsock also doubled up Wellsboro 18-9 in the final frame.
Junior Colin Fletcher led all scorers with a game-high 23 points, including hitting five shots from behind the three-point line. Senior Luke Rothermel added 8 points, junior Ethan Keane scored 4, senior Jonathan Carl pitched in 3 points, and sophomores Griffin Morral and Ransom Schultz chipped in two points apiece.
Rothermel and Morral pulled down 6 rebound each while Carl added 4, senior Marek Mascho added 2 assists and a steal, and Rothermel had 3 steals.
Brayden Cioffi (18) and Brecken Gusick (14) led Loyalsock.
The Hornets had 9 turnovesr and shot 3-for-8 (.375) from the foul line.
Wellsboro won the JV game 52-35 behind 13 points from freshman James Doughtie and 12 points from freshman Braylen Jessup.
Wellsboro (0-1) hosts Northeast Bradford for their first NTL contest Thursday.
