The Wellsboro Girls Basketball team suffered a 78-25 loss to Troy on the road on Wednesday, January 15.
"I am proud of the heart and energy the girls displayed tonight against a very athletic, skilled, and senior-laden team," said Maureen Poirier. "They played hard for 32 minutes and never gave up."
Troy opened the game up with a 15-9 run in the first quarter, then went on a mega run over the 2nd and third quarters to win their third game in a row.
Troy was on fire from behind the three-point line for the game, hitting 10 as a team. They opened the game with three in the first, hit five in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, then closed out the 4th with a pair. In the two middle quarters the Troy girls outscored Wellsboro 27-6 and 22-7 to build a 64-22 lead heading into the final quarter, where they outscored the Lady Hornets 14-3.
Senior Chloe Brandenburg led Wellsboro with 15 points while senior Paige Logsdon added six. Junior Lily Wagner and freshman Teagan Novinger both scored two points apiece.
Troy's Alyssa Parks had 19 points to lead all scorers.
Troy also won the JV game 46-23.
The loss drops Wellsboro to 4-6 overall and 2-5 in the NTL Large School Division. The team is back in action tomorrow night at home against Athens.
