The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team improved to 3-0 on the young season after they shut out Port Allegany 3-0 Saturday.
"Our girls played with a lot of composure today," head coach Michael Reese said. "Haylie and Luna finished their chances well, and our back line with Jadyn in goal stayed organized for another shutout. I’m proud of the way both varsity and JV continue to compete and build momentum."
After a scoreless first half freshman Haylie Smith converted a pass from sophomore Kate Bryant for their first goal not even four minutes into the second half. Roughly two minutes later sophomore Luna Moyer scored unassisted to put Wellsboro up 2-0. The Lady Hornet defense held the Lday Gators scoreless the rest of the way.
Wellsboro out shot Port 11-3 and had a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. Junior Jadyn Dunlap saved all three shots for her third clean sheet of the week.
Wellsboro also scored a shut out in the JV game, winning 4-0. Senior Kristina Belz, sophomore Rosa Sguera, freshman Shayla Hamblin, and sophomore Molly Doan all scored.
The Lady Hornets (3-0, 2-0 NTL) host Troy Wednesday.
