Lady Hornets Place 5th At Jarvis Tournament

The Wellsboro Girls Wrestling team opened their season at the Jarvis Tournament in Athens on Saturday, coming home with a 4th place finish.

The Lady Hornets scored 63 points on the day. Athens won the tournament with 150 points while Selinsgrove (124.5) and Milton (82) were 2nd and 3rd. Northeast Bradford (59.5) was 6th, Jersey Shore (56) finished 7th, Muncy (53) was 8th, Benton (46) came home 9th, Williamson (28) placed 11th, Sullivan County (13.5) came home 12th, and Sayre (13) rounded out the field in 13th.

Senior Jordan Rumsey went 4-0 on the day, scoring 4 falls while sophomore Isla Twoey was 4-1 with 4 falls. Freshman Phoebe Bowen scored 3 wins and sophomore Katie Whitney picked up three victories.

Freshman Riley Kilburn won twice and sophomore Zoey Roosa won once.

Twoey (100), Rumsey (106) and Bowen (190) all won their 1st round matches, Twoey and Rumsey won their 2nd round matches and the pair also picked up wins in the 3rd round. Whitney, Kilburn and Bowen also scored wins in the 3rd round, and Bowen followed it up with a 4th round win.

Rumsey returned to pin Athens' Alyssa Rinebold in 21 seconds in the 5th round, while Roosa also scored a pin over Sayre's Chaylynn Roloson in 1:29 at 148 lbs.

Twoey won her semi-final match in 46 seconds against Wilkes-Barre's Jolian Suarez, then fell to Selinsgrove's Aislynn Weller in the finals.

Whitney pinned Jersey Shore's Elliana Herr in 2:25 in the consolation semi-finals and finished 5th after an 11-9 decision against Benton's Kenzie Meikrantz.

Kilburn finished 7th at 170 lbs. after scoring a 43 second pin over Milton's Tsel Meg Tsogsaikhan.

The Lady Hornets are back in action this weekend at the Lady Phoenix Christmas Classic at Sugar Valley Rural Charter.
