The Wellsboro Girls Basketball team got their first win on the young 2025 season as they knocked off Sayre 42-27 Friday in their home opener.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to a 12-6 lead after the opening quarter and outscored the Lady Redskins 14-7 to build a 26-12 lead at the half. Wellsboro outscored Sayre 16-12 during the second half.
Senior Lily Wagner led all scorers with 14 points while sophomores Kate Bryant and Adelyn Frantz also finished in double-digits with 11 points apiece. Freshman Kya Lawton chipped in 4 points and junior Reese Regina rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
McKenna Parrish finished with 13 points to lead Sayre on the evening.
Wellsboro shot 6-for-16 (.375) from the foul line and hit four shots from behind the three-point line, three of them by Bryant.
Sayre was 4-for-12 (.333) in the game from the line.
Wellsboro swept the evening, winning the JV game 22-17. Freshman Shayla Hamblin scored 8 points to lead Wellsboro while sophomore Jennifer Belz added 6.
The win improves the Lady Hornets to 1-2 (1-0 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action at Williamson on Wednesday.
