Wellsboro edged Wyalusing 3-2 in five sets in the quarterfinal round of the District IV Class 2A Volleyball playoffs Saturday afternoon in Athens.
The Lady Hornets avenged an earlier season loss to the Lady Rams, which also went five sets.
"We didn't play our best game today and struggled on offense, but our defense came alive and really worked hard to keep us in the game," head coach Darci Pollock said. "It was exciting to see our younger players getting the experience in a district game and feeling the excitement of playoffs. Wyalusing put up great blocks and really made us earn it. I'm proud of our team for pushing through five sets and executing when we needed it the most."
Wellsboro won the first set 25-23 but dropped the 2nd, 25-20. They rebounded to win the third 25-17, but dropped the 4th set 25-21. Wellsboro then took the 5th set 15-9 to advance to the semi-finals.
Sophomore Kendall Sweet had 11 kills and 4 aces to lead the Lady Hornets while junior Blake Eckart made 8 kills and 4 aces. Sophomore Adelyn Frantz had 7 kills and 4 blocks, sophomore Peyton Keane made 13 digs and had 7 aces, junior Ellie Largey recorded 15 assists, senior Taylor Main had 10 assists and 6 digs, and junior Madison Cruttenden made 6 digs.
The Lady Hornets will square off against Loyalsock in the semi-finals on Tuesday in Athens at 5:00 p.m.
