Towanda edged Wellsboro 48-44 on Monday, January 6, dropping the Lady Hornets to 0-2 to start NTL Large School Division play.
The game, however, was neck-and-neck until the final buzzer.
"Before the game, I told the girls we were in for a dogfight," said head coach Maureen Poirier. "Towanda was super physical and played full court pressure the entire game. In spite of the score, the girls have finally played 4 quarters of team ball on both ends of the court. We are Stronger than yesterday."
The Lady Hornets held a slim, 8-7, lead after the opening eight minutes of play, however Towanda outscored Wellsboro 11-9 to lead 18-17 at the half. Towanda put up a 15-13 3rd quarter to pad their lead slightly, 33-30, heading into the last quarter. Over the course of the final frame Towanda edged the Lady Hornets 15-14 to hold on to the four-point win.
Three Lady Hornets scored in double-figures on the evening, led by senior Chloe Brandenburg with a game-high 23 points. Senior Paige Logsdon and freshman Teagan Novinger scored 10 points each and junior Lily Wagner added one point from the foul line.
